“We Want Smile Back on their Faces”

Korean-American students in Irvine will host a music concert to raise funds for children with cleft lips and palates.

Korean-American high schools students in the Orange County area is continuing their efforts to share their talents for nine straight years.

This time, Korean-American students in Irvine will host a music concert to raise funds for children with cleft lips and palates.

Smile Train Foundation in Orange County, consisting of 12 high school student musicians, will hold the concert at 4445 Alton Parkway as a fundraiser.

All funds collected at the event will be donated to the Smile Train Foundation to help the children with cleft lips and palates. The foundation has partnered with 1,100 hospitals around the world to help children with flaws facial features by providing surgeries. Each surgery costs about $250.

So far, Smile Train Orange County has raised up to $40,000 from the concerts. It has already provided surgeries to 160 children and has been selected as the best fundraising high school group recently.

“Nowadays, people get plastic surgery to get prettier,” said Smile Train Orange County music director Young-sook Kang. “Some children have difficulties being breast-fed or even drink water because of their health problems. They’re also bullied in the society for their looks. We’re going to perform for those children and help to put a smile back on their faces.”
