A potentially armed 71-year-old convicted sex offender with an unspecified mental health disorder, who is under a state-mandated treatment program, has escaped from an electronic tracking device and is being sought by police.

The fugitive was last seen around 7:30 p.m. on October 10 near Olympic Boulevard and Masselin Avenue in the mid-Wilshire neighborhood in LA Koreatown, the Los Angeles Police Department said on October 12. Police said he goes by the names John Carver, Scott Carver, or Michael Meadows.

Police believe Carver cut off his electronic monitoring device and fled on foot, not in a vehicle, toward San Vicente Boulevard and Sierra Bonita Avenue.

Carver is described as a white man, 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing about 200 pounds, with brown and gray hair and green eyes.

Police said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding Carver’s whereabouts to contact 911 or local law enforcement. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
