“I hope students will embrace a life of service and generosity through this event.”
On September 16, the Korean American youth volunteer group PAVA World will partake in and offer volunteer services for the “10th Annual LOVE SHARE 5k/10k Run/Walk,” an initiative by the Korea Daily and Happy Village.
The organization disclosed that 50 students, ranging from elementary to high school, will be engaged in the volunteer activities. These volunteers will assemble at the Wiltern Theater, located at the junction of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue, by 6:30 a.m. to assist with the event’s kick-off and conclusion.
Students’ responsibilities will encompass registering marathon participants, distributing medals, managing traffic, guiding runners to amenities such as restrooms and water stations. Post-race, they’ll assist in site cleanup. Moreover, the students will join the marathon to personally resonate with the event’s theme: “Let’s Share Love and Stop Hate.”
“Similar to the idea that ‘Those who have tasted the joy of giving continue to give,’ those experienced in service understand its depth. We aim for our students to immerse in as much voluntary work as possible, truly understanding the essence of giving back. This event presents a prime opportunity to instill in them the significance of community service and the ethos of collective living,” stated Won Sik Myung, the president of PAVA World.
Established in 2001, PAVA World is a Southern California-centric student service organization. It primarily channels its efforts into environmental preservation, uplifting the socio-economically disadvantaged, and nurturing upcoming leaders. In alignment with this, students initiate weekly volunteer tasks such as developing and maintaining community parks, providing meals to the homeless, and ensuring beaches stay clean.
“This year’s Love Sharing Marathon emerges as a grand event, inviting not just Koreans but diverse ethnic communities to convene post-pandemic. We are eager to rejuvenate community spirits through this initiative,” said Myung.
The marathon route commences at the Wiltern Theater, stretches along Wilshire Street, and culminates at MacArthur Park. This year’s occasion also marks the Korea Daily’s 49th anniversary, promising attendees an array of generous giveaways and attractions.
