Girl group NewJeans landed on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart for the first time on Tuesday, just six months after its debut last August.
The girl group’s dance track “Ditto” debuted at No. 96 on Billboard’s main chart set for official update on Saturday, the group’s “first career entry,” according to a Billboard Twitter post made Tuesday.
“Ditto” is on the band’s latest EP “OMG,” which has sold over 700,000 copies within the first week of its release on Jan. 2. It has won international praise for its retro-style theme, topping music charts in and outside of Korea immediately after it was pre-released on Dec. 20.
NewJeans is now the first K-pop band that debuted after September 2016 to land on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the fifth band ever following Wonder Girls, BTS, Blackpink and Twice.
Solo artists that have ranked on the chart include Psy, CL, along with individual members of Blackpink and BTS, who have either released their own tracks or featured on other artists’ music.
