In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-Korea Alliance and the 120th anniversary of Korean immigration, the ‘2023 Korean Month Program’ will unfold throughout October in Southern California.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles (Consul General Youngwan Kim) announced on October 2 that it would be hosting a range of events to highlight both the traditional and modern beauty of Korean culture.

This year’s Korean Month event will feature programs that encapsulate various dimensions of Korea, such as its politics, economy, and culture.

The festivities began with a fusion music event in Koreatown on September 30, blending Korean traditional instruments with American contemporary ones. To mark the commencement of the program, a reception is slated at Consul General Youngwan Kim’s residence at 6 p.m. on October 5, with diplomats and other distinguished guests in attendance.

Notably, starting from 7 p.m. on the same day, both the Korean and American flags will be lit atop the Wilshire Grand Center in Downtown LA, a sight that will remain for four days.

Furthermore, 13 diverse programs are scheduled, including the 2023 World Korean Business Convention, the LA Korean Festival, JIKJI Opens the Golden Future, the 70th Anniversary of the U.S.-ROK Alliance Conference by RAND Corporation, a Korean painting exhibition, and a seminar marking the 30th anniversary of Korean language education in schools. Specifically, during the LA Korean Festival from October 12 to 15 at Seoul International Park, the LA Consulate General will establish an on-site citizen service center. Here, services like assistance with nationality affirmations, military service, elections, issuance of joint certificates, and 10-minute civil complaint consultations will be provided.

“Korean culture is establishing itself as the distinctive ‘K-Culture’ brand within American society,” remarked Consul General Youngwan Kim. “We’re delighted to present an enriching Korean Month program in Southern California. We anticipate that this will be an excellent opportunity to showcase Korean culture to the residents of Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego.”
