Summer is here in Los Angeles, which means that outdoor movie screenings are back! To make your summer nights cooler, various events are offering outdoor movie screenings – some of them screening classics, others recent hits. Some of the events integrate movie screening with delectable food from some of the most renowned food trucks and concerts hosted by local bands. So come out, watch movies, and chill!
Cinespia
Cinespia’s Hollywood Forever Cemetery outdoor movie screening is one of the most popular outdoor movie experiences in greater Los Angeles, even occasionally visited by stars, directors, and filmmakers. Program is comprised mostly of classic films. This year, Purple Rain, Grease, The Sandlot, Kill Bill, The Muppet Movie, and Sabrina are scheduled to be screened. You can also see a fireworks show after the movie on Independence Day holiday weekend!
Street Food Cinema
Launched in 2012, Street Food Cinema offers an experience that brings the best in pop culture films, gourmet street food, and progressive new music together. This year, the event will be held in 12 different locations, including Exposition Park in DTLA, Poinsettia Recreation Park in West Hollywood, Victory Park in Pasadena, and King Gillette Ranch in Malibu. A wide range of films will be screened, from classics like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Casablanca, and recent Hollywood hits like Mad Max: Fury Road. Featured food trucks for this year’s event are Baby’s Badass Burgers, Big Bad Boyle BBQ, Churro Stix, Cut, Soft Serve, Jogasaki, Lobsta Truck, Sweet Amsterdam, and many more.
Eat, See, Hear
This event presented by Showtime is returning every Saturday until September 17th. Autry Museum in Griffith Park, Centennial Square at Pasadena City Hall, Santa Monica High School Amphitheatre, and North Hollywood Recreation Center are the main venues. Hairspray, North by Northwest, Trainspotting, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory and various other films will be screened with featured food trucks on-site.
Rooftop Film Club
Different from outdoor screening events listed above, Rooftop Film Club suits better to a romantic date experience: comfortable beach chairs and individual headphones will be provided to enhance your premier movie-watching experience.
