Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ office announced that it has provided relief to more than 100 homeless individuals in four different clusters of encampments in Koreatown and its surrounding areas, including near Virgil Middle School.
The mayor’s office explained in a press release on October 12 that, through the Inside Safe initiative, four large homeless encampments were cleaned up, and over 100 homeless individuals were relocated to temporary housing. The initiative also addressed traffic and safety concerns.
These neighborhoods are predominantly Latino residential and commercial areas that have housed large-scale homeless encampments since the pandemic, resulting in frequent complaints from residents.
“In partnership with the City and County, we were able to bring more than 100 Angelenos inside and restore communities,” said Mayor Bass, “and we will continue to work with the local councilmembers and the LA Unified School District.”
This marks the 28th homeless cleanup in the city, with more than 1,600 homeless individuals so far relocated to temporary housing through the Inside Safe initiative.
One of Mayor Bass’s priority initiatives, Inside Safe is an outreach program that extends beyond housing homeless individuals to provide mental health support, drug treatment, healthcare benefits, and more.
