Los Angeles County-owned golf courses began charging a $10 reservation fee for golfers starting August 1 after a recent controversy over the illegal booking of golf tee times.
The fee was imposed on city-owned facilities and expanded to the county level after a scandal involving illicit tee time booking by Korean-American brokers for tee times at golf courses in Southern California. The policy now parallels that of the city of Los Angeles.
Online reservations will be charged a $10 reservation fee per person, which will be applied to the full cost of the reservation on the day of the event.
If a reservation is canceled within 48 hours or is a no-show, the fee is non-refundable. If only two people show up for a four-person reservation, an additional $10 will be charged for each missing person.
However, the county has decided not to charge these fees for same-day phone reservations or walk-in golfers.
The authorities have notified county-owned golf courses of the rule on their booking sites and via email.
As the city and county of Los Angeles begin charging reservation fees, it is expected that other city-owned courses will follow with similar measures.
