Netflix original series “Queenmaker” (2023) was the most-watched non-English TV show on Netflix for the week of April 10, according to the global streaming service on Wednesday.

“Queenmaker,” released on Netflix on April 14, garnered over 15 million total hours viewed only three days after its release. It ranked No. 1 in Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam and landed in the Top 10 in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Qatar and Singapore.

The Netflix series revolves around corporate fixer Hwang Do-hee, who becomes disillusioned by the ethics of her work and teams up with a human rights lawyer, Oh Seung-sook, to take down her former employers.

Veteran actor Kim Hee-ae, known for her roles in hit dramas such as “My Husband’s Woman” (2007) and most recently “The World of the Married” (2020), plays the former corporate fixer Hwang Do-hee, while fellow veteran Moon So-ri plays Oh Kyung-sook, the lawyer whom Do-hee catapults into the political scene.

“Queenmaker” currently has a 7.8 rating out of 10 on IMDb.

Netflix announced a record number of upcoming Korean content at the beginning of the year, with 34 titles including films and original series. Over 60 percent of Netflix users watched at least one piece of Korean content last year, according to data from Netflix.
