A Korean-American woman traveling to South Korea on a flight from New York has died after falling unconscious on board and being rushed to a hospital in Tokyo, Japan.
At 12:48 a.m. on July 16, Air Premia Flight YP132, which departed from New York with 272 passengers, was approaching Japan when a woman in her 40s fell unconscious.
The cabin crew and a passenger who is a nurse administered emergency medication and performed CPR, but she did not regain consciousness.
The Air Premia flight landed at Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan, the closest airport on the route, at 3:01 a.m. and transferred the unconscious passenger to paramedics.
She was taken to a university hospital in Tokyo, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to Air Premia, the passenger did not disclose any medical conditions when boarding the flight, and there were no external factors on board that could have led to her cardiac arrest. Japanese police are investigating the incident.
After the unplanned landing, Air Premia flight YP 132 took off from Haneda Airport at 5:01 a.m. and arrived at Incheon Airport at 7:25 a.m., about two and a half hours later than originally scheduled.
