A Korean-American-owned smartphone repair shop in downtown Los Angeles has been robbed.

Around 3:40 a.m. on October 3, a burglar broke into an electronics repair shop, FIXSTORY, located near Flower and 8th Streets, and stole about $1,000 worth of electronics before fleeing. The store, which specializes in repairing smartphones, tablets, and other electronic devices, only first opened in June.

The owner’s wife posted about the damage on social media and released security camera footage of the incident. The video shows a large glass window of the store cracking and shattering in the early morning, followed by a man wearing a white T-shirt breaking into the store.

The suspect, whose face is uncovered, is seen on the footage removing a black cloth covering the store’s merchandise before entering a storage room at the back of the store. He then casually walked out of the store with a box that appeared to contain electronics.

According to the victims, the incident caused about $1,000 worth of damage, which was somewhat mitigated by a security guard who responded to the alarm and recovered the box with some of the stolen phones inside.

The victim said that on the day of the theft, the store was undergoing work to repair a broken glass window with wooden panels. “Even though the alarm rang, the burglar didn’t care and broke the window, this is LA,” the victim said. “We called the police and they took fingerprints. But I don’t know how seriously they will treat it.”

The owner of the robbed repair shop is reportedly a professional electronics repairperson who appeared in a Korean TV show Hangout with Yoo.
