The medical chief at Disneyland in Anaheim is reportedly a Korean-American physician.

On October 24, Walt Disney’s blog “Life at Disney” highlighted Seung Pyo (Sean) Lee’s work.

Currently, Disney has a Chief Physician at three locations, including Anaheim Disneyland Park, Disney Cruise Line, and Orlando Walt Disney World. Lee is the chief at Disneyland in Anaheim.

“Since July 2019, I have been managing the health and safety of employees as the Chief Physician of the Disneyland Resort Health Services Clinic,” he said in an interview with the Korea Daily on October 24. “I provide clinical oversight of the clinic and help ensure that employees work in a safe environment.”

Disneyland employs approximately 34,000 people. The park virtually operates 24/7, with many employees preparing for the next day’s opening even after closing, so it’s critical to have healthcare services and protocols in place for employees.

Lee has worked with safety, risk management, and human resources to create a variety of procedures and policies to ensure the health of Disney employees. During the pandemic, he came to work even when Disney resorts were closed to collect health information and consult with safety experts to create preventive measures.

“I came to work every day during the pandemic, even when the parks were closed, to ensure safety measures were in place, and it was one of the most challenging but meaningful experiences,” he recalled.

Lee also contributed to the company’s responsiveness by sharing rapid information from the Korean Disease Control and Prevention Agency with the company.

“It’s very rewarding when we all work together with one goal in mind for the health of our employees,” Lee said, ”My goal is to make sure that employees who visit the clinic always leave feeling better.”

Lee specializes in occupational and environmental medicine. He earned his M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia and completed his Master of Occupational Health at the University of Utah.

He completed his residency at the University of Utah Hospital and Rush University Medical Center. Lee worked as a physician at the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) for three years and five months before joining Disney.
