Korean-American Kyu Young Mike Paek confirmed as federal judge in New York

Another Korean-American federal judge is on the bench.

Kyu Young (Mike) Paek has been confirmed as the U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of New York in Poughkeepsie, announced in a press release on July 30.

Paek, who came to the U.S. with his parents at age 6, attended Plano Senior High School in Dallas and the University of Texas at Austin before graduating from Fordham Law School. After graduating from Law School, he taught bankruptcy law as an adjunct professor. Paek then practiced bankruptcy law at Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP in New York and served as chief law clerk to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

Chief Judge Debra Ann Livingston of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York welcomed the appointment in a public statement.

“We are excited to welcome Mike Paek to the Southern District bankruptcy bench. Mr. Paek has already served the Southern District Bankruptcy Court for many years as a law clerk and court executive, and he will be an excellent addition to the bench of that distinguished court.”
