A Korean Canadian director has been nominated for Best Director’s Award at Canadian Screen Award.

According to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, director Gloria Kim (Korean name Kim Eui-young) has been nominated for Best Director at this year’s Screen Awards for her CBC drama Heartland.

Heartland is a family drama about life on an Alberta ranch. It has been on the top 10 hit on Netflix.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony next month at Toronto’s Meridian Hall, and broadcasted live on CBC and CBC Gem.

Kim was born in Seoul and immigrated to Canada at the age of three, settling in Toronto. She studied English literature at the University of London and worked as a magazine journalist before moving into film.

In 2020, she won Best Director at the Canadian Film Festival (CFF) for her film Queen of the Morning Calm. She has made numerous short and feature films, including the CBC drama Murdoch Mysteries.
