The University of Washington (WUSTL) in St. Louis announced on the 28th that Dr. Jenny H. Kwon (photo), an assistant professor of infectious diseases division at the medical school, has been appointed as the research chair of the Society of Medical Epidemiology (SHEA).

SHEA consists of doctors and medical experts specializing in infection prevention and antibiotic management, and is known as one of the four major infection-related institute along with the American Society of Infectious Diseases (IDSA), the Human Immunodeficiency Virus Medicine (HIVMA), and the Pediatric Infectious Society (PIDS).

The university said Dr. Kwon is focusing on research to reduce infection diseases that patients and medical workers get and to limit the spread of dangerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

In addition, the study is supported by the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Medical Management Quality Survey (AHRQ), and various foundations.

In addition, Dr. Kwon is currently mentoring undergraduates, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students, fellows, and residents on antibiotic resistance and infection prevention research.

“The key to Dr. Kwon’s lab is to provide trainees with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities necessary to achieve their goals,” the university said. “She works with each mentee to understand their goals and create a personalized career development plan to help mentees reach their potential.”
