Korean-American aspiring nurse found beaten to death in NY

A Korean American woman in her 20s was beaten to death by her boyfriend in Brooklyn.

Kelly Kwak-28, a resident of Gates Avenue in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, was beaten to death by her 32-year-old boyfriend on Oct. 10, the Daily News reported Thursday.

Police responding to the call arrived at the scene at 9:40 a.m., but Ms. Kwak was already dead, according to the report. The 32-year-old man, who remained at the scene, was taken to nearby Woodhull Hospital for psychotic symptoms.

The NYPD has not yet released the man’s identity and is reportedly investigating without arrest or charges.

According to reports, an autopsy performed on Kwak’s body on Nov. 13 concluded that he died of blunt force trauma and that the cause of death was homicide.

Police, who were called to the scene after Kwak’s cousin reported that he hadn’t been able to contact his sister for several days, said they detained Kwak’s boyfriend, 32, who was in the apartment at the time, as a possible suspect in her murder.

Police have not yet filed charges against the man, who is being examined for mental illness and questioned. According to police, the man appeared extremely lethargic when officers responding to the call knocked on the apartment and demanded Police, who are not releasing the man’s identity, said he told them he was “on a lot of medication” at the time.

According to officials, Kwok’s body was already decomposed by the time police arrived on the scene, suggesting that he had been dead for at least a week.

According to reports, Kwak was born in Queens and attended Queensboro Community College, where she was majoring in nursing.
