As the year-end cold sets in, a wave of goodwill continues for the “Padded Jacket Donation” event to help the homeless.

Happy Village, a non-profit under the Korea Daily, will distribute padded jackets to the homeless across Los Angeles on December 14. This annual event is made possible through various individual and organizational sponsors.

Torrance First Presbyterian Church (Pastor Ko Chang-hyun) is once again the largest sponsor this year, donating 350 jackets ($5,000).

Choi Eun-kyung, the chair of the church’s social service committee, emphasized, “We know that the homelessness issue is serious. It is the church’s mission to help those in need.”

She continued, “Beyond simply delivering items, we want to share love,” and added, “We hope the jackets will reach those who need them the most.” The church also expressed plans to engage in more community issues moving forward.

The Southern California Hwanghae Province Association (President Jung Jin-sik) also contributed 100 jackets ($1,500), adding support to the cause.

President Jung said, “I saw the Korea Daily article and wanted to contribute to this good cause.” As he completes his term as the 24th president, he shared, “I wanted to do something meaningful by helping those in need at the end of my term. After living in Southern California for over 50 years, I feel a deep affection for the community, and I will continue to serve with association members for the benefit of the community.”

The “Padded Jacket Donation” event is in its 18th year. Every year, the efforts of the Korean and local communities come together to give homeless individuals a warm winter.

This year, many individuals and organizations have shown support, including the Turbo Charitable Foundation, Korean beverage company Win Soon, DBA Epoca, Sunrise Foundation, and Pro Club Foundation.

The padded jackets, funded by donations, will be delivered directly to the homeless throughout LA in cooperation with homeless support organizations.

The organizers stated, “The warmth from the hearts of the Korean community is raising the temperature in LA this winter. We hope for more interest and support.”

Meanwhile, donations for the “Padded Jacket Donation” event will be accepted until December 14. Donors can contribute jackets in units of 10, 20, 100, or 200. Donations can be made by personal check, credit card, or cash.
