Korea Daily and Cachaus K-pop Mixset nears 200K views, generating buzz

A K-pop mixset series, created through a collaboration between the Korea Daily and artist collective Cachaus, is closing in on 200,000 views, drawing widespread attention and acclaim.

The mixset, released in October to mark Korea Daily’s 50th anniversary, is part of an effort to branch out beyond traditional news into cultural content.

It reflects Korea Daily’s push to expand its role as a cultural hub, paired with Cachaus’ innovative approach to blending K-pop with various musical genres.

 

One highlight of the project is DJ B.’s debut K-pop mixset, which has already surpassed 120,000 views. The mixset combines K-pop with house, baile funk, Miami bass, and hip-hop, offering a unique fusion that appeals to a broad audience.

Andrew Cha, 26, a music producer with IZNYRS, which participated in the project, attributed the success to its creative approach. “B.’s mix has resonated because it combines K-pop with a wide range of genres. For many Koreans, seeing a multicultural crew performing K-pop in collaboration with a Korean media outlet was both refreshing and exciting,” Cha said.

The video has drawn praise from viewers across diverse demographics. One commenter wrote, “It’s so inspiring to see something this fresh from a place with such a rich history like Korea Daily.” Another remarked, “This mix is incredible—thank you for connecting K-pop with EDM!” A third expressed surprise, writing, “Wait, is this really the Korea Daily in Koreatown, LA?”

DJ B., whose full name is Bi Pham, described the video’s success as unexpected. “Breaking through the YouTube algorithm isn’t easy, so seeing so many people engage with this was a surprise,” she said. “The office setting and concept really elevated the production. Honestly, it’s a bit intimidating because I’m not sure how I can top this mix.”

Cachaus sees the project as an opportunity to bridge K-pop and the Koreatown community. Angel Sok, 27, the crew leader and project director, said, “K-pop fans often develop a deeper interest in Korean culture. I’m planning to visit Korea next year to create new content and explore more opportunities.” Sok added, “I also want to bring more vibrancy to Koreatown through collaborations with local businesses and venues. There’s so much potential for unique partnerships.” Cachaus is open to collaboration proposals via email at angel@tfti.design.

Meanwhile, The New York Times recently named Supernatural by K-pop group NewJeans as one of its “Best Songs of 2024.” Praised for its blend of retro influences and modern polish, the track underscores K-pop’s growing global influence.
