The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) will unveil a new K-pop curriculum, set to be implemented in four schools this fall semester.
The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles announced that an online seminar for teachers to explain the K-pop curriculum will be held on August 17 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
During the online seminar, the contents of the six-unit K-pop curriculum will be introduced. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask questions directly.
Not only teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools but also Korean-Americans interested in K-pop can join the seminar by entering the Zoom meeting ID (857 1429 2676) and password (038619).
In April, the Korean Consulate General and LAUSD agreed to cooperate in establishing the K-pop course and have since supported the development of the curriculum.
The K-pop curriculum, currently being developed by a total of seven active teachers, will include six units covering the history of K-pop, marketing and entertainment industries, and analysis of K-pop bands and music, among other topics.
The Korean Consulate General plans to share the K-pop curriculum on their electronic library (kasonline.net) once it is completed later this year.
The schools selected for the pilot K-Pop course this fall are LA Academy Middle School, Ambassador School of Global Leadership, Edward R Roybal Learning Center, and Fairfax High School. The Korean Consulate General also mentioned that they are in the process of obtaining approval for the course from the University of California.
