Settlement payments for the Kia vehicle theft class action lawsuit will be made via direct deposit.
According to the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, owners, victims, and other affected parties will receive up to $3,375, depending on their damages.
“Victims will receive a one-time payment from the settlement,” auto publication Union Rayo reported on September 14, and urged to ”be sure to review the requirements and apply before the deadline expires.”
According to the court notice, the deadline to claim the settlement is January 11 of next year.
The vehicles covered by the settlement include Kia Forte (2011-2021), K5 (2021-2022), Optima (2011-2020), Rio (2011-2021), Sedona (2011-2021), Sorento (2011-2022), Soul (2011-2022), and Sportage (2011-2022).
Those eligible for the settlement can file a claim at www.kiatheftsettlement.com/submit-claim.
The class action began in 2022 when victims filed a complaint in the Federal District Court for the Middle District of California. About three months later, the class action was consolidated with 16 other lawsuits filed across the country against Kia Motors and others.
Union Rayo said that while Kia and Hyundai are currently working to resolve the problem, drivers still continue to be concerned about the theft of their vehicles.
