Kevin Kang was appointed as the new Chairman of the Board of the Korean American Foundation (KAF), a nonprofit charity organization serving the Korean American community.

On July 5, KAF announced that Kevin Kang, CEO of the apparel company Edgemine and Chairman of the Kang Dream Foundation, was unanimously elected to succeed David Lee, Chairman of Jamieson Group, during their recent board meeting.

Kang assumed his role as the third Chairman of the Korean American Foundation on July 1. David Lee, who has led the organization for the past three years, will continue to serve as a board member.

Established in October 2018, the Korean American Foundation aims to carry out charitable projects for the development and welfare of the Korean American community. Its first Chairman was the late Myung-ki Hong, Chairman of the M&L Hong Foundation.

The foundation primarily raises funds from Korean businessmen and others to support charitable projects within the Korean community. Initially, the foundation aims to secure $10 million in donations from 100 donors, with each donor contributing $100,000. According to the foundation, over 30 Korean Americans have already participated, resulting in $4.5 million in funding.

“The Jewish, Japanese, and Chinese communities have all established community foundations ahead of us and have been active, but the Korean community has not,” stated Kang. “If we can reach 100 donors soon, we can make a greater impact on the Korean community. We hope that those who are able will willingly participate and help support the Korean American community.”

Kevin Kang, a prominent figure in the Korean American business community, has successfully led the apparel company Edgemine for 30 years. In 2013, he established the non-profit charity Kang Dream Foundation to contribute to corporate social responsibility. The foundation currently provides $400,000 annually to Koreatown organizations.

Using the funds raised, the foundation has supported four organizations, including the LA Food Bank, and eight organizations, such as the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles, with $100,000 each in 2021 and 2022, totaling $200,000. In June, the foundation also sponsored the LA Korean American Chamber of Commerce’s Nex-Gen Mixer.
