The nonprofit Kang Dream Foundation was established in 2013 by Kevin Kang, chairman of Edgemine, a major Korean-American apparel company, marking its 20th anniversary and fulfilling its corporate social responsibility. Besides supporting Korean-American organizations and government agencies, the foundation initiated a scholarship program in 2020 to assist students financially impacted by the pandemic.
Initially donating $25,000, the foundation has increased its contributions to $350,000 since 2018, supporting up to 35 organizations annually. In 2020, the foundation launched a $100,000 scholarship program and has continued to award scholarships annually since then.
“Our next mission is to support the establishment of next-generation organizations,” Kang stated in an interview with The Korea Daily on the foundation’s 10th anniversary. “During the pandemic, we observed that the Korean-American community became more active following the generational shift. Thus, we considered establishing and supporting organizations that would foster networking within the Korean-American community for the next generation.”
