The sound of K-pop filled an unexpected venue last week—the newsroom of the Korea Daily. On September 5, the newsroom transformed into a stage for a K-pop mix set. This project brought together the artist collective ‘Cachäus’ and the Korea Daily for a six-hour filming session starting at 8 p.m.
A mix set is a curated selection of music, typically running from 30 minutes to an hour, designed to match a specific setting or mood. While mix sets have traditionally leaned on genres like EDM and hip-hop, K-pop is now taking center stage in this format.
Reflecting that shift, HYBE’s girl group Le Sserafim recently collaborated with DJ ‘co.kr’ on a mix set released on YouTube on September 3. At the Korea Daily shoot, Cachäus members Jonah (27), Angel (27), and Ricky (26) led the production, while DJs ‘TFTI,’ ‘B,’ ‘JAZZY J,’ and ‘JAYV’ each delivered K-pop-based sets lasting 30 to 40 minutes.
Cachäus, an LA-based artist collective, is making waves in music, video production, design, and DJing. They’ve caught the eye of major event organizers like Insomniac, known for their large-scale music festivals and club events. Recently, Cachäus has worked on projects across Southern California, including the K-pop event ‘Electric Seoul,’ featured in the Korea Daily’s July 25 edition.
Andrew Cha (26), a music producer and DJ with the EDM trio ‘IZNYRS,’ who participated in the project, said, “We wanted to push creative boundaries while maintaining the integrity of the newspaper. It’s exciting to see K-pop, one of the most trending genres, integrated into a traditional space like the Korea Daily newsroom.”
The K-pop mix set series produced by Cachäus and the Korea Daily is set to be released soon on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@cachaus).
