Hollywood Mural ‘You Are the Star’ Vandalized Again with Graffiti

The iconic Hollywood mural ‘You Are the Star’ has been defaced again with graffiti and spray paint. Created in 1983 by artist Thomas Suriya, the mural features classic film stars seated in a theater and has long stood as a visual symbol of Hollywood’s cinematic legacy.

Graffiti covers the lower half of Hollywood’s iconic ‘You Are the Star’ mural.

This latest act of vandalism targeted the lower portion of the mural, where unauthorized markings were sprayed directly onto the artwork. Although the faces of the figures remain visible, the graffiti significantly damaged the mural’s overall appearance, drawing concern and disappointment from local residents.

Designated as a protected cultural asset by the City of Los Angeles, the mural has been vandalized multiple times in the past, each time requiring restoration. The recurrence of such damage has raised renewed concerns about the protection and preservation of public art in the city.
