Barnes & Noble announced on June 23rd its plan to open four new concept stores serving alcoholic beverages, as well as expanded food menu. At these selected Barnes & Noble store, you can now enjoy a boozy reading experience.
The first store to open with this new concept will open in Eastchester, NY in October, followed by three more stores in Edina, MN, Folsom, CA, and Loudon, VA.
The goal of these new concept store is clear – to increase the sales from food/drink, which comprises 10% of the whole sales as of now and more importantly, to increase the traffic.
Current stores will operate the in-store cafes without much difference, but will incorporate some changes made on the merchandise. One of those changes is to open shop-in-shop concept sections under the title, “For the Artist.” Painting and drawing tools as well as related books will be available from these shop-in-shops. Comics and LP sections are to be expanded as well and more chairs and couches will be placed in stores to invite customers to read books more comfortably.
