A Korean-American professor has been appointed to head the architecture department at Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD).
GSD announced on its website on July 8 that Dr. Grace La (pictured) will take over as chair of the architecture department on July 1.
La, a graduate of Harvard University Graduate School of Design (GSD), has been a tenured professor at GSD’s architecture department since 2013.
She is the first Korean-American to hold a tenure-track position at GSD.
I am honored by the GSD’s trust and look forward to collaboration on the next chapter of this esteemed department,” said Professor La, “I am thrilled to work on this shared project and on the continued mission to harness the immense intellect, imagination, and energy of the GSD’s creative community.”
Professor La is the founder of the highly acclaimed architectural firm LA DALLMAN, which has won more than 50 architectural awards.
Along with her co-founder and husband, James Dallman, she was recently appointed to the board of directors of the Graduate Commons Program, a residential program for Harvard graduate students in 2022.
After graduating with honors from Harvard University, Professor La earned her MArch from GSD, and before joining the GSD faculty in 2013, she taught at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Syracuse University in New York.
