Shortly after completing his term as mayor, District 1 Council Member Fred Jung was elected as mayor pro tem by the Fullerton City Council.
At its December 5 meeting, the council elected Council Member Nicholas Dunlap as mayor and Fred Jung as mayor pro tem.
The city of Fullerton elects its mayor by a vote of the City Council, unlike other cities in Orange County such as Irvine and Garden Grove where the mayor is elected by its people.
Dunlap won the mayoral election with votes from himself, Council Member Bruce Whitaker, and Jung. Council Member Ahmad Zahra only received votes from himself and Council Member Shana Charles. Jung defeated Zahra by one vote for mayor pro tem, following a similar voting pattern.
Mayor Dunlap and Mayor Pro Tem Jung began their one-year terms immediately following the council elections.
