Independent films directed by Korea-American filmmakers are nominated for Film Independent Spirit Awards, which is often referred to as the Academy for indie films.

On November 22, the organization announced nominees for each category. Among the nominees, Andrew Ahn’s Spa Night (2016) and So Yong Kim’s Lovesong (2016) are included, both for John Cassavetes Award.

John Cassavetes Award is awarded to the best feature made for under $500,000. Director of Spa Night, Andrew Ahn, has placed his name on the nominee list for Kiehl’s Someone to Watch Award as well, which honors emerging talent.

Both Spa Night and Lovesong have been invited to Sundance earlier this year.
