Dr. Byung Yul Yoon, a retired clinical psychologist, has been recognized in the prestigious Marquis Who’s Who in America, one of the world’s most renowned biographical directories.
Since its inception in 1899, Marquis Who’s Who has chronicled accomplished individuals across various fields, including politics, business, and the arts.
Born in Seoul, South Korea, Dr. Yoon graduated with a degree in philosophy from Yonsei University before pursuing further studies in educational philosophy in Tokyo. He later immigrated to the United States, where he earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from United States International University in 1979.
Dr. Yoon dedicated his career to supporting the Korean immigrant community, serving as a Senior Clinical Psychologist for the Los Angeles County Mental Health Department. He played a pivotal role in addressing the unique challenges faced by Korean immigrants, including cultural adjustment, language barriers, and mental health issues. Through over 200 public seminars, community talks, and media appearances, Dr. Yoon provided invaluable guidance to ease their transition into American society.
In 1987, he founded the Southern California Chapter of the Korean Needy Children’s Supporters Association, which has raised over $13 million over the past 35 years to assist underprivileged children. His philanthropic efforts have been widely recognized, earning him multiple awards, including commendations from his alma mater, Yonsei University, and the Magnolia Medal from the South Korean government in 2018.
Reflecting on his recognition, Dr. Yoon said, “I was genuinely surprised and honored to receive this acknowledgment. It brings me great joy to see my efforts to build a healthier community recognized.”
