The unofficial number of people who have died from the recent torrential rain is now at 34 after the body of an eighth victim was recovered from a submerged underpass in Osong, North Gyeongsang, just before 1 p.m. Sunday.

According to the government as of 11 a.m. Sunday, the death toll from the heavy rain from the past four days was 33.

This figure included the seven bodies that had been recovered from the Osong underpass that flooded Saturday after the nearby Miho River itself flooded.

Most of the victims were passengers of a bus that was trapped.

The death toll could rise further, as there are at least 10 people are still reported as missing.

According to the government, North Gyeongsang had the highest number of casualties from the recent torrential rain, at 17.

North Chungcheong trailed behind with 11. This figure did not include the eighth person recovered from the flooded underpass.
