2. Dave Min, 47th Congressional District

Dave Min

Dave Min is a law professor-turned-politician running for the 47th Congressional District. A graduate of Harvard Law School, Min entered politics while he was a professor at UC Irvine School of Law.

After failing to qualify for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018, Min ran for the California Senate 37th District two years later in 2020.

During his time in the state senate, Min fought for public safety, introducing legislation to increase violent crime penalties, protect victims of domestic violence, prevent sexual harassment on public transportation, and strengthen gun control. In the state senate, he served as Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee and Vice Chair of the Agriculture Committee and Water, Parks, and Wildlife Committee. He has also been an advocate for the Korean American community. One of the most notable is the establishment of Kimchi Day.

Min’s election platform includes immigration reform, reasonable gun control, fighting climate change, and protecting abortion rights. These are all issues that need urgent improvement. His election will also play a major role in empowering the Korean-American community.

In the primary, Min received 25.9% of the vote, just behind his Republican rival’s 32.1%, but the race is currently a close one. Experts predict that the November general election will be decided by which party’s supporters turn out to vote in greater numbers. Min’s campaign is getting an edge in fundraising, which is giving him a good outlook. Through the end of June, Min had raised a total of $3.61 million, $700,000 more than his opponent.

The 47th Congressional District includes major Orange County cities including Irvine, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Huntington Beach, and Costa Mesa.
