The product is dubbed Marron & Tiramisu in reference to the original recipe created by the chef on the Netflix show, and will be priced at 4,900 won ($3.60). The tiramisu cup will be available for pre-order on CU’s mobile app from Tuesday to Thursday.
Chef Napoli Matfia, whose real name is Kwon Seong-jun, made the marron tiramisu during the eighth episode of Netflix Korea’s hit cooking survival show “Culinary Class Wars.” The episode had the chefs create a “creative and tasty” dish while only using ingredients they can find at a convenience store. A CU convenience store-inspired set was made at the show for additional immersion.
The chef used marron cream bread and chestnuts, sold at the convenience store, to make the tiramisu. Both items’ sales increased by 31.1 percent and 42.7 percent, respectively, during the week the episode was released compared to the previous week.
CU worked with chef Kwon to commercialize the product and plans to release additional products in the future.
“You’ll be able to taste the sweet and savory flavor of autumn chestnuts and deep cream cheese,” CU said in a press release Tuesday.
“The flavor compares favorably to desserts offered at hotels.”
