Buena Park officials vow action after string of shopping mall burglaries

Following a series of burglary incidents at a Korean shopping mall in Buena Park, the city government and police department have vowed to take active measures to address the issue.

The Buena Park Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and, therefore, could not disclose details but emphasized that the burglaries pose a serious threat to local businesses. As a result, authorities plan to increase patrols in the affected areas.

A police spokesperson told the press on February 19:

“We are collecting evidence through reported cases and on-site investigations. To deter further crimes, we will enhance patrols around shopping centers near Beach Boulevard and Malvern Avenue, especially during late-night and early-morning hours.”

Additionally, the police urged local business owners and residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity, noting that similar burglaries have been occurring in other areas as well.

Mayor Pledges Stronger Crime Prevention Measures

Buena Park Mayor Joyce Ahn expressed deep concern over the crimes and pledged to improve security.

“As the city’s chief administrator, I find these burglary incidents very troubling. In coordination with the police department, we have decided to increase patrol personnel and enhance communication with business owners to prevent further crimes.”

Mayor Ahn also mentioned that a meeting is being scheduled between business owners, the police department, and city officials to discuss additional crime prevention measures.

Property Management Resists Security Upgrades

Meanwhile, the management company overseeing Village Circle on Beach, where several of the burglaries occurred, stated that they do not currently plan to implement additional security measures, such as hiring security personnel or upgrading surveillance systems.

A representative from the management company explained:

“Enhancing security with additional guards or new safety equipment would result in increased costs for tenants, which we want to avoid at this time.”

As burglary incidents continue to rise, local businesses and residents are calling for swift action from both law enforcement and property managers to ensure a safer shopping environment.
