The cold case of the murder of a Korean American, unsolved for 27 years, is being reinvestigated by the Baltimore County Police Department.
On January 18, the department released a montage of a suspect’s face, announcing their pursuit of new leads in the 1997 murder of 46-year-old Yang Yoon.
Yoon was working at Selma’s Liquor Store in downtown Baltimore on the fateful night. Around 9 p.m., police were called to the scene following reports of gunfire. Inside, they discovered Yoon with multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to the hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The initial investigation identified two suspects. It was determined that they had broken into the store and engaged in a scuffle with Yoon, who was then working in the basement warehouse. During the altercation, Yoon was fatally shot. The suspects reportedly fled in a green vehicle.
Based on a witness’s account, police constructed a montage of one suspect, described as approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing between 140 to 150 pounds.
The police are now offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and are urging community members to come forward with any relevant information.
