The number of international students in the United States from South Korea is on the decline for five straight years.
The “Open Door” report released by the Institute of International Education, 61,007 South Korean international students attended various schools in the U.S. during 2015-2016 in comparison to 63,710 in the previous 12 months.
Since the figure reached 73,351 in 2010-2011, it has been on a steady decline. The average percentage decrease annually has been 3.6 percent over the last five years. While the number of Korean students is decreasing, the U.S. now has more international students from abroad than ever before after surpassing 1 million for the first time.
California reportedly has the most international students among 50 states at 149,328, while New York and Texas followed. New York University is the most attended school for international students, currently enrolling 15,543 foreign students.
