Boy band BTS’ album “WINGS” debuted at 26th on the Billboard 200, setting a new record as the best-selling K-pop album in its first week.
According to Billboard on Tuesday, the record sold 16,000 albums during its release week, which ended Oct. 13. This record was previously held by girl group 2NE1’s 2014 record “Crush.”
The boy group also became the first Korean idol act to have placed three times on the chart, as their recent album became their third consecutive chart-placer on the Billboard 200.
The group has broken multiple album records since its release, as they became the first Korean artists to log an entry on the official UK album charts, as well as taking first on the main album chart on iTunes. The boy band even managed to take the top spot on the main iTunes chart in 97 countries worldwide.
The boy band also became the most watched K-pop group in 24 hours with their music video for their latest single “Blood Sweat & Tears,” as they managed to bring in 6.3 million views in a single day on YouTube.
