Organized by Korean language classes and Korean culture clubs across the Fullerton School District, the festival will showcase Korean traditions through music, fashion, martial arts, and modern K-pop.

Expanded program highlights Korean traditions

According to Shim Ji-Ni, Korean language teacher at Parks Junior High, the event was previously called “Korean Culture Night” but was renamed this year to reflect its growth into a broader community celebration. “The festival now draws students and families from various backgrounds,” she said.

The festival will begin with traditional Korean folk music performed by a student orchestra from Beechwood Elementary and Junior High.

Laguna Road Elementary students will perform Yoon Do-Hyun Band’s “Butterfly” and showcase a sogo (small hand drum) dance, a Taegeuk flag song and choreography, and other cultural presentations.

Parks Junior High students will model traditional Korean hanbok (Korean attire), followed by a taekwondo (Korean martial art) demonstration by the school’s Korean Culture Club.

Students from Beechwood and Fisler schools will also perform nanta (a Korean percussion performance blending drumming and theatrical elements) and buk (drum) pieces.

K-pop finalists, puppet dance, and archery demo

The event will feature performances by finalists of the K-Pop Battle of the Bands, a district-wide competition held for the first time on [April 9] at The Source Mall in Buena Park. Teams from Parks, Fisler, and Beechwood middle schools will represent their schools.

Additional special performances include a traditional puppet dance by students from the Kim Eung-Hwa Dance Institute’s Orange County branch.

Lee Ki-Sik, former head coach of the U.S. National Archery Team, who led the team for nearly 18 years, will introduce Korean-style archery alongside student participants.

Free admission for Fullerton families

The Korean cultural festival is open to all students in the Fullerton School District, along with their families and friends. Admission is free.
