H Mart, the largest Asian supermarket chain in the U.S., officially opened its Chino location (3967 Grand Ave) on the 13th, marking its 18th store in California.

Despite rainy weather, over 500 customers lined up early, and more than 100 continued waiting into the afternoon, demonstrating strong local interest.

The new Chino store spans approximately 30,000 square feet and operates daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Positioned near the 71 Freeway in a busy shopping plaza with major retailers like Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Target, the store seeks to attract a diverse customer base beyond Korean American shoppers.

H Mart Chino introduces several upgrades to enhance the customer experience.

The refrigerated and frozen sections feature large, stand-up refrigerators instead of traditional island-style freezers. This design allows for efficient overstock storage and smooth product availability during busy hours.

The vertical sliding doors on refrigerated units make it easy for customers to browse products with a single slide, improving convenience. Despite the taller fixtures, the store maintains an open, spacious feel with wide aisles and high ceilings.

The produce section features advanced cooling technology with misting systems and air curtains to keep fruits and vegetables fresh by maintaining proper temperature and humidity levels.

Wider aisles throughout the store ensure that two carts can pass comfortably, even when customers are browsing open refrigerators. Safety bars are installed at key corners to enhance convenience and prevent collisions.

The checkout area is designed to leave a lasting impression. Brightly lit displays near the registers highlight impulse-buy items, encouraging last-minute purchases while maintaining a polished and inviting atmosphere.

During the grand opening event, H Mart President Brian Kwon shared the company’s vision: “Our goal is to enrich people’s lives through the traditions, cuisine, and culture of Asia.”

He added, “We are thrilled to open our 18th store in California. We want H Mart Chino to be more than just a supermarket—a one-stop destination that embraces diverse cultures and brings joy and value to our customers’ daily lives.”
