A large-scale immigration enforcement operation targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records is expected to take place in the Los Angeles area in the coming weeks.

According to an internal government document obtained by the Los Angeles Times, federal law enforcement agencies are planning a broad crackdown on undocumented immigrants in LA later this month.

The document indicates that the operation, led by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will specifically target individuals who have been issued deportation orders due to criminal convictions but remain in the country.

A former law enforcement official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the Los Angeles Times that FBI agents had been asked to assist in the ICE-led operation in Los Angeles.

FBI spokesperson Laura Eimiller declined to comment on the specifics of the operation but confirmed that “since late January, the FBI has been supporting enforcement efforts.”

Meanwhile, Matthew Allen, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) Los Angeles division, stated that if requested, his agency would review the situation and allocate resources as necessary.
