7. Nathan Hochman, LA County District Attorney
The Korea Daily officially endorses Nathan Hochman, a candidate in the LA County District Attorney race, who advocates for strengthening prosecutorial authority to combat and prevent rising crime.
Hochman, a former federal prosecutor, has been vocal about the need to establish stronger law enforcement and harsher penalties to curb the surge in organized retail theft, fencing operations, and attacks on small businesses like convenience stores. The paper believes he is the ideal candidate for district attorney to ensure public safety.
Running as an independent, Hochman has gained support by opposing incumbent DA George Gascón’s policies, arguing that they should be abolished. Notably, he has pledged to reverse the current policy of not prosecuting minors who commit theft under $950, labeling such policies as “crime-enabling” and detrimental to both small businesses and public safety.
Hochman’s key campaign promises include restoring public trust in the DA’s office, safeguarding victims, supporting mental health and substance abuse recovery, and enhancing reentry programs for former inmates.
Having previously run in the 2022 California Attorney General race, Hochman secured a spot in this year’s general election after placing second in the March primary, emerging as a leading figure among those opposing Gascón’s approach.
He has already secured endorsements from influential figures, including former LA County DA Jackie Lacey, former mayoral candidate Rick Caruso, former LAPD Chief Charlie Beck, and the LA County Sheriff’s Deputies Association, along with support from over 70 current deputy district attorneys.
Further details on Hochman’s platform can be found on his campaign website.
