Police have announced a reward for information leading to the arrest of a suspect after a Korean man in his 60s was fatally struck by a speeding electric scooter in a hit-and-run in LA’s Koreatown.
On September 24, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) released a statement seeking public assistance in locating the suspect involved in the September 12 accident, which occurred near the intersection of James M. Wood Boulevard and South Westmoreland Avenue. A $50,000 reward is being offered to anyone who provides information that leads to the suspect’s capture.
The victim, identified as 65-year-old Donny Kim, was walking with his wife, Jenny Kim, to a restaurant across the street when the accident occurred. As he stepped onto the sidewalk from a nearby parking lot, he was struck by a rapidly approaching electric scooter.
After the collision, Kim initially declined hospital transport, opting for first aid instead. However, after returning home, his condition worsened with increasing pain and vomiting. He was taken to the hospital later that day but sadly passed away two days later, on September 14.
