Korean-American voter registration event offers support ahead of election

The Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA) is partnering with the Korean American Coalition of Los Angeles (KAC-LA) to assist Korean-American citizens with voter registration. On September 17, a booth will be set up at Koreatown Plaza from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to provide support for registering to vote.

Only U.S. citizens are eligible to register to vote. Circumstances that may require re-registration include: reacquiring U.S. citizenship, recent address changes due to relocation, failure to receive a mail-in ballot for the March election, a desire to switch to mail-in voting, wanting to change party affiliation (Republican, Democrat, Green Party, etc.), or wanting to receive election materials in Korean.

Volunteers from both KAFLA and KAC-LA will be on-site to assist, and the registration process is expected to take no longer than three minutes. Attendees can also check their current voter registration status at the booth.

Key upcoming election dates include: October 7, when mail-in ballots will be sent out, October 21, the voter registration deadline, and November 5, Election Day.

KAFLA emphasized the importance of voter registration and participation, noting that this election includes critical races, such as for the U.S. President, LA County District Attorney, LA City Council members (in even-numbered districts), and education board members—races that significantly impact the Korean American community. The organization urged Korean Americans to participate actively in the electoral process.
