An exhibition will be held to look back at the development of Koreatown in Los Angeles and look ahead to the future.

Co-hosted by Korean-American architectural firm Andmore Partners and the Korea Daily, which commemorates the 50th anniversary, the “50 Years Together” exhibition will be held for six days from October 4 to 9 at EK Art Gallery at 1125 Crenshaw Boulevard in Koreatown.

As the subtitle, “LA Koreatown, Past Present and Future,” suggests, the exhibition is about the future evolution of Koreatown. The exhibition will be about how to preserve the unique color and style of the entire neighborhood. By analyzing the characteristics of each street in Koreatown, the exhibition will highlight the development of the past 50 years and suggest the direction of the next 50 years. Andmore Partners will also reveal the design of the buildings in Koreatown.

As Korean-American community-based architects, Sean Mo and Heagi Kang, co-principals of Andmore Partners, have been asking questions about what it will take to sustain Koreatown for the next 50 years. Over the past eight years, they have spent their own money researching every aspect of the neighborhood, from zoning to the distribution of religious facilities.

Their designs incorporating these ideas will be unveiled for the first time in an exhibition. The recently unveiled design for the redevelopment of the Korean Consulate General in Los Angeles building is a reflection of how they envision the future development of Koreatown.

“I believe that only when Koreatown is revitalized will our identity as Korean Americans continue to be passed on to the next generation,” said Mo, explaining the background of the exhibition, ”I hope that the design plan will give everyone a chance to think about the sustainability of Koreatown.”

The exhibition will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is available to the public for free. On the evening of October 3, a pre-opening event will be held, featuring speeches by Yoonho Nahm, CEO of the Korea Daily, and other speakers, as well as a presentation on the exhibition by Andmore Partners. The pre-opening event is invitation-only, and those who wish to attend must register separately.
