AT&T has reported another customer data breach, impacting almost all of its customers. On July 12, AT&T announced that customer data was illegally downloaded from a third-party cloud platform in April.
The compromised data includes call and text records of nearly all AT&T cellular customers between May 1, 2022, and October 31, 2022, and a very limited number of customers’ records from January 2, 2023.
The breached data contains phone numbers that AT&T customers interacted with but does not include identifiable information such as dates of birth and Social Security numbers. The content of calls and texts also was not included in the breach.
AT&T is currently working with law enforcement to apprehend those involved in the breach, with at least one person already arrested. The company stated that it does not believe the data is publicly available.
This breach follows a previous incident in April when AT&T disclosed a massive data breach, reporting that customers’ personal information had been hacked and shared on the dark web. The latest incident is separate from this earlier case.
AT&T said it will provide notice to customers whose information was involved.
