If you have purchased packaged meat or packaged citrus products from Walmart in the past seven years, you might be eligible for a lawsuit settlement of up to $500.
According to the settlement of Walmart’s product overcharging class action lawsuit, customers who purchased beef, pork, chicken, fish, seafood, and other foods sold by weight or bagged citrus from Walmart between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, are eligible for a $45 million settlement. Customers have until June 5 to join the class.
Shoppers who have a receipt for the purchase of the affected products can claim 2% of the price, up to a maximum of $500 as part of a settlement. Those who don’t have the receipt can claim between $10 and $25 by verifying the purchase, such as providing a detailed description of the type and year of the purchased items.
The plaintiffs filed the class action lawsuit in October 2022, alleging that Walmart’s marked prices for some products were higher than the actual price per unit of weight, causing consumers to spend more money than the advertised “lowest price”. Walmart denied the allegation of the case but said it chose to settle because of the inconvenience it may have caused to customers.
