A significant fire has devastated a Korean-American business at Jobber Market, a prominent wholesale clothing market in downtown Los Angeles.
The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) reported that the blaze erupted at a single-story building at 1400 South Main Street around 5:10 a.m. on April 5. This building housed a wholesale T-shirt shop, a clothing store, and a warehouse, all owned by a Korean-American entrepreneur.
The fire extensively damaged the T-shirt shop and the clothing store while partially affecting the warehouse. “The fire was fueled by the clothing, textiles, and the building’s mezzanine structure,” said the LAFD, mentioning that the building’s roof partially collapsed.
Authorities confirmed that there were no casualties resulting from the fire. The LAFD deployed 120 firefighters to tackle the blaze. Initially, the teams attempted an aggressive interior attack. However, due to the significant amount of combustible materials inside, they shifted to a defensive strategy, focusing on preventing the fire’s spread to adjacent structures.
The firefighting operation extended into the morning, impacting traffic as nearby roads were closed.
