Pennsylvania State Representative Patty Kim (50) is running for the State Senate.  Kim, who has represented the 103rd House District since being elected in 2013, announced on October 20 that she is running for the 15th Senate District (Dauphin County).

Kim was born in the United States, graduated from Boston College, and worked as a local news anchor before entering politics in 2006 as a Harrisburg City Council member. She first gained attention when she defeated a Democratic incumbent in a primary for the State House of Representatives. In her subsequent re-election and third term, she won with 70 to 80 percent of the vote.

State Senate District 15 is currently represented by Republican John DiSanto, who has announced that he will not run again.

“Senator DiSanto has let us all down,” Kim said in announcing her candidacy, adding, “The people of my district already know the values I have fought for and will continue to fight for.” She said she would focus on family leave, minimum wage, gun violence, and low-income health care programs, among other issues.
