“We source good ingredients from Korea and cook them, and we have developed our own sauces that we use on our whole chicken, including kimchi,” said Won Woo Lee (American name Joy Lee, 54), the owner of Kimchi Red, which was named one of the “best-fried chicken in the nation.”
Kimchi Red, located in Alpharetta, Georgia, was recently named the No. 1 chicken restaurant in the nation by Yelp (www.yelp.com), a review site for restaurants, shops, and more.
In honor of National Chicken Day (July 6), Yelp asked customers to vote for their favorite chicken restaurants, and Kimchi Red received a 4.5-star rating. The news of the No. 1 ranked chicken restaurant was first reported by Yahoo News, followed by local newspapers and Korean-language media outlets.
Kimchi Red serves Korean-style marinated chicken, Seoul Buldak chicken, mega French fries, chicken bulgogi, kimchi, and kimchi fried rice, japchae, and spicy Korean Chicken Stew. The restaurant was also recognized as “Best Asian Food,” “Best Lunch Place,” and “Best Wings.”
“We fry medium-sized raw chicken, toss it in our own sauce, and serve it to our customers,” Lee said in a social media interview on July 20. “Above all, I think the reviews from customers saying ‘it was delicious’ helped us to be selected,” he added, “It was possible because we have employees who work like a family.”
Lee, who founded Kimchi Red a year ago, plans to open a second location in Suwanee, near Alpharetta, soon. Lee was born in Mapo, Seoul, and immigrated to the United States with his family when he was 15.
