For the first time in history, the Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season will kick off in Seoul, South Korea, next year.
The MLB office announced on July 12 that the opening game of the 2024 regular season will be played in Seoul between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. The games are scheduled for March 20 and 21, 2024.
Additionally, the MLB confirmed that the Houston Astros and the Colorado Rockies will play in Mexico City on April 27 and 28. Mexico City previously hosted a regular season game this year on April 29 and 30 between the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.
In the upcoming season, MLB plans to hold opening games in three cities worldwide. Alongside Seoul and Mexico City, London, U.K. will also be part of the lineup, where the New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will play on June 8 and 9. The schedule for these games was announced earlier this year in June.
This marks the eighth time that MLB has taken the regular season to major cities across the globe. The first game was held in Monterrey, Mexico in 1999, followed by Tokyo, Japan in 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2019, San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2001, and Sydney, Australia in 2014.
