Former and incumbent board members of the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Orange County, including President Sean Roh, Chairman Jim Koo, Executive Vice President Edward Youn, and former President Brian Chung, have joined forces to show their support for Irvine Vice Mayor Tammy Kim, who is running for mayor in the upcoming November election. KACCOC President Sean Roh hosted a fundraiser for Vice Mayor Kim in his personal capacity at WeWorks Irvine on June 23.
Vice Mayor Kim, aiming to become the third Korean American and the first Korean American woman mayor of Irvine in Orange County, following former mayors Sukhee Kang and Steven Choi, expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “Thank you for your support. I will repay the support by winning the mayoralty.”
The current mayor, Farrarh Khan, is unable to run in next year’s election due to term limits. So far, Vice Mayor Kim and Councilmember Larry Agran are the only two candidates running for mayor, and they both belong to the Democratic party.
Kim is also accepting online donations at TammyKim.com/donate. While the City of Irvine is transitioning to a district-based election system starting from the November 2024 election, the mayoral election will continue to be a citywide, at-large election representing a single district. According to Kim, there are approximately 153,000 voters in Irvine, out of which 51,000 are Asian, including 11,300 Korean Americans.
